By 1993, finishing and painting
the boxes were too much for one person to handle, so Corinna joined Martin.
She began by painting the pieces on her kitchen table. Soon, other women
from the village were enlisted to help. Corinna formed her guild of painters
and tinters, comprised mostly of women with young children who enjoyed
working out of their homes in the Cotswold tradition of cottage industry
manufacturing.
One of these women was Kay Roseblade.
Later Kay became the first Antiquark employee and is now its General Manager.
Another woman, Carole Clayton, was pregnant when she began painting with
Corinna. She now paints only part-time, but because of her skill and experience
she is given the most challenging work.
Marilyn Gilbertson is also an
original guild member. She was so enthused that soon her husband Rhyddian
was working alongside her. When Martin needed to outsource some of the
finishing, Rhyddian left his job to train with Martin. The Gilbertsons
set up their own production facility and now employ fifteen people who
do everything from casting to finishing.
