Focus on Charity: 1998 | ||
While Harmony Kingdom has made charitable contributions since its inception, a program was launched in 1998 that involved the box figurines themselves. The Zookeepers Collection was introduced as an ongoing series devoted to the care of needy animals through the world. David Lawrence carved the first four pieces, three of which were limited editions, with proceeds going to the Brookfield Zoo. The fourth, 1999's club redemption piece, benefited Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge in Titusville, Florida. Two Zookeepers are planned for Year 2000. With each Zookeeper, collectors are given the opportunity to adopt an animal for a small fee. They receive information from the adopting organisation, adoption papers and a Wee Beastie miniature figurine that depicts the animal that they have adopted. Another on-going charitable campaign organised by The House of Peers involves raffling or auctioning rare prototypes donated by Harmony Kingdom. The first HOP auction was held in May 1999 and raised $4085 for tornado relief aid to Oklahoma City. The second HOP campaign, a raffle at Harmony Kingdom's Grand Investiture in June 1999, raised over $5600, split amongst the American Diabetes Association, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the World Wildlife Fund.
