A trio of young green sea turtles swims away from the beach where they have just hatched. A can of “turtle soup” beneath them is just one of the many dangers they must elude while growing up. “Doh” and “18” inscribed on the lid both refer to Peter’s son Sam, 18 months old at the time of carving and happily saying “Doh” when watching his favorite cartoon. “PC 5.9.02” shows the date the carving was completed for this piece and “Spring, TX” was one of the stops on the US House of Lords Tour in 2002. The mouse is underneath the turtle’s flipper that has a smiley face on it. On the Version One interior, a baby turtle emerges from an egg. Inside the Version Two the baby turtle has gone and his old home is up for sale. |
