“Earn Your Stripes”, Peter’s first ever Tapir box figurine, fits neatly into the category of odd and eccentric animals that he loves so much. With the body of a pig and a nose like a small elephant, these large mammals are born with wonderful white stripes and spots that gradually disappear over time. There are three types found in South America - Brazilian, Bairds and Mountain - and a fourth called the Malayan. Guess where he comes from? Peter thinks these creatures are cute, but if you Google “Oklahoma City Zoo 1998”, you’ll see they can be a tad aggressive. The interior portrays a young tapir showing off its strange feet. They have four toes on the front feet and three on the back. This odd animal has become one of Peter’s favourites, except for the one that doesn’t like zoo keepers. |
