Three pug dogs grace this box, suggested by collector Victor Mesce. “Coelacanth,” the name of an ancient fish once thought extinct, is on the inside of the lid as a reminder to Peter to carve one. Because of their flattened faces, pugs sometimes have eye problems – hence the two eyeballs rolling around on the Version One exterior. Version Two has the eyes replaced by a less gruesome feature, a magazine. The Version One interior shows Guy Fawkes on his bonfire and the date November 5. This British holiday was being celebrated the week Peter finished working on the pugs. The Version Two interior shows a snowman. The mouse gazes skyward from the top of the lid. Fixed edition of 2500 Version One and 2500 Version Two worldwide. |
