Ancient Greek philosophers were the first to depict the ourobouros, a fiery serpant curled in a circle devouring its own tail. For them, it symbolized the cyclic nature of time. The word dragon also derives from an Ancient Greek word – drakon - which means to see or to watch. It was a dragon who, in Greek mythology, watched and guarded the golden apples in the Garden of the Three Maidens, the Hesperides. These apples were given to Hera as a wedding gift by Zeus. The dragon was later slain by Heracles / Hercules. 132 carved into the lid lip signifies that this is carver David Lawrence’s 132nd piece for Harmony Kingdom.
