Master Carver Peter Calvesbert says that he always wanted to carve a graceful running cheetah, but because his sculptures are box figurines, the design would be next to impossible. With “Fast Company”, he presents a more sedate version of these long-legged wild cats – a trio in rare repose. The interior compartment contains a pair of running shoes and a 70 mph sign, this being the speed that a cheetah can reach for short periods. Etched into the rim are the initials J.G (Justin Gatlin) and A.P. (Asafa Powell) and the time 9.77 (seconds). These two men were the joint world record holders for the 100 meters, but since carving “Fast Company”, Mr. Gatlin has failed a drug test and has been banned from the sport for up to 8 years. The number 666 inscribed in the lid is the date the model was completed, 6th of June 2006, and not the "mark of the beast". |
