This is the third crab box figurine which features a clever crustacean coaxing a timid minnow from its coral reef hideaway. The crab almost has his prey, using a slice of bread as bait. On this same baited claw our crustacean friend sports a wristwatch. The mouse hides amid the coral on the back of the piece, near a minnow. The words “Brean Sands” are inscribed on the back of the crab’s shell, referring to the name of a beach in England where Peter and his family vacationed over twenty years ago. Initially, “Brean Sands” was designed to have an empty interior, though few were actually produced this way. One hundred pieces depict a hand inside, and the remaining pieces have a treasure chest within. In September 1996 a few hundred pieces were produced in white, some of which went to the U.S. but were mostly sold in the U.K. Hallmarks include diamond, clock face with month 2, HBC logo, and Pc. |
