The Sphinx is a relatively new breed. Originating in Canada in 1966, a hairless kitten named "Prune" was mated with his mother, becoming the primogenitor of this "naked" cat. Despite their odd appearance, they fetch very high prices, perhaps due to their cuddliness. Because the Sphinx cat has no pelt to keep it warm, it seeks body heat and is known to sleep with its owner under the covers. Peter has carved his model in the pose of the Egyptian Sphinx. "Mr Bigglesworth" is a reference to the hairless cat belonging to Dr. Evil in the Austin Powers' films. "Blepharospasm" is uncontrollable blinking that is effectively treated with Botox. Inside this box figurine is a Botox syringe, an attempt to reduce the cat's wrinkles. |
